The Chairman of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority, Fares Braizat, announced on Thursday that the government is considering raising entrance fees to Petra in the near future.

Braizat noted that hotel occupancy in the city of Petra experienced a significant drop during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, with occupancy rates not exceeding 17%.

He added that the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip had a substantial impact on the flow of tourists to Jordan, which in turn affected the number of visitors to the ancient city of Petra.
