Record-breaking Growth at Queen Alia International Airport in 2023
Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) in Jordan has experienced a remarkable surge in passenger numbers and air traffic during the first half of 2023, according to data released by Airport International Group (AIG).
In the first six months of the year, QAIA welcomed an impressive 4,350,608 passengers (PAX), marking a staggering 33.9 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2022. This growth has been fueled by the addition of 44 airlines and 80 destinations to the airport’s global networks, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of its Terminal Building.
Not only did the passenger count soar, but QAIA also witnessed an 18.1 per cent increase in aircraft movements (ACM), totaling 37,255 flights, as well as a 6.8 per cent rise in cargo handling, reaching 31,118 tonnes.
June proved to be a particularly busy month for the airport, with 848,927 passengers passing through its terminals, representing a notable 19.2 per cent increase from June 2022. Furthermore, aircraft movements rose by 15.6 per cent, reaching 7,177 ACM, while cargo handling experienced a 7.5 per cent boost, totaling 6,096 tonnes.
The addition of new airlines, such as Air Algérie, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, TUS Airways, and Edelweiss Air, as well as the inclusion of new airports like Algiers Houari Boumediene Airport, Stockholm Arlanda Airport, and Sphinx International Airport, further contributed to QAIA’s thriving performance.
Among the top five destinations that significantly impacted the airport’s traffic statistics were Jeddah, Cairo, Riyadh, Bangkok, and Sana’a.
In response to the remarkable growth, AIG CEO Nicolas Claude expressed gratitude to the airport’s dedicated team and the unwavering support of passengers and partners. He emphasized their role in ensuring a seamless and welcoming airport experience that makes QAIA feel like home, solidifying its position as Jordan’s prime gateway to the world.
