The village of Al-Hashimiyah (Farrah) is an administrative division of Ajloun Governorate, nestled in the remote Shafa municipality. It is known for its stunning mountainous landscape, abundant in olive, fig, almond, grape, and apple orchards, as well as a variety of forest trees.

The village has a rich history and heritage, with numerous stories and tales passed down through generations from the elders to the young.

The name Farrah carries multiple meanings, including “vessel,” “grape press,” and “caves.”

Originally known as Farrah with a doubled “r”, the village’s name was officially changed to Al-Hashimiyah in 1973 following a royal decree. Several theories surround the origins of its name. One suggests it is derived from the Roman term “ferra,” meaning “beautiful land.” Another theory posits that the name may have come from a former queen named Vera who lived in the area, later evolving into Farrah or Farrah.
