Many visitors stay in Amman for the first night to rest after a long flight, especially if they arrive late.
Transportation Options in Jordan
You have different options for transportation in Jordan:
- Rent a car and drive yourself. You can also buy a Jordan Pass, which includes visa fees and entry tickets to many sites.
- Hire a private driver with a car.
- Book a full package tour that includes everything—transportation, hotels, and guided tours.
Important Tip: Many tourists don’t know that if you book a tour with a Jordanian travel company, you can get a free visa. Also, your trip will be safer because the tour company registers all travelers with the Jordanian Ministry of Tourism. The choice is yours
Day 1: Exploring Amman and the North
Your first day in Amman, the capital of Jordan, should include visits to nearby sites before heading to southern cities like Petra and Aqaba.
We recommend visiting Jerash and Ajloun in northern Jordan. They are about 1 hour from Amman. After returning, explore Amman Citadel, the Roman Theater, and Downtown Amman. These places are close to each other and will not be tiring.
Day 2: The Dead Sea Experience
On the second day, head south to the Baptism Site (Al-Maghtas), which is about 1 hour away near the Dead Sea. After your visit, go to a Dead Sea hotel and enjoy a full day at the beach.
Day 3: Journey to Petra
Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, is about 3 hours from the Dead Sea. Since Petra is large, you need a full day to explore it.
On your way to Petra, visit:
- Mount Nebo (20 minutes from the Dead Sea).
- Shobak Castle, which you will see after about 2.5 hours on the desert highway.
- Little Petra, which is 30 minutes from Shobak, with beautiful canyon views.
- Wadi Musa, the town near Petra, where you will stay overnight.
Day 4: Exploring Petra
Start early at 6 AM in summer (to avoid the heat) or 8–9 AM in winter. Spend the whole day exploring Petra. You will find restaurants, water, WiFi, and local guides at the site.
- Wear comfortable shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, and bring water.
- After finishing your visit, return to your hotel and rest for another night.
Optional: Petra by Night
Petra by Night is available on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Check at the Visitor Center for tickets. There, you will also find maps and brochures in different languages and can hire a tour guide who speaks your language.
Day 5: Adventure in Wadi Rum
From Petra, drive 2 hours to Wadi Rum.
Best Time for a Jeep Tour:
- If the weather is hot, go in the late afternoon to enjoy the sunset.
- If it’s cold or cloudy, visit at midday.
Spend the night in a Bedouin camp under the stars—a unique experience!
Day 6: Final Day Options
- Visit Aqaba (1 hour from Wadi Rum) and stay a night by the Red Sea.
- Return to Amman (4 hours from Wadi Rum).
- Go directly to the airport (3 hours from Wadi Rum).
